Google Gemini Expands ‘Ask About This PDF’ Feature

Google is broadening the rollout of its AI-powered “Ask about this PDF” button, initially launched with Gemini Advanced last year. The feature, now available in beta version 16.0.5 of the Google app, simplifies extracting information from PDFs.

The tool allows Android users to interact with PDFs directly. By tapping the “Ask about this PDF” button, users can pose specific questions, and Gemini quickly analyzes the document to provide answers, complete with citations.

Currently limited to the Files by Google app, the feature aims to save time by reducing the need to sift through long documents. Users can also ask follow-up questions for deeper insights. This update follows the introduction of a new PDF viewer in the Files app and hints at a wider rollout for Android users soon.

Additionally, Google is working on an “Ask Photos” feature for the Photos app, enabling AI-driven interactions with stored images.
