Google Home APIs Enter Public Developer Beta

Google’s Home APIs and Home runtime, announced at Google I/O, are now available in a public developer beta. Initially tested by select developers like Eve, Nanoleaf, and LG, these tools are open for all Android developers to integrate into their apps.

The beta includes several APIs:

  • Device and Structure APIs: Manage and control smart home devices within Google Home and Matter ecosystems.
  • Commissioning API: Simplifies onboarding new smart home devices using Fast Pair, Google Assistant, and Matter.
  • Automation API: Enables app-based creation of Google Home automations.

Eve, Nanoleaf, and LG have already implemented features like autonomous schedules, voice controls, and seamless smart TV integration. With developers such as Aqara and Yale joining, broader app functionality is expected soon.

Developers can currently test these APIs with up to 100 users, with general availability planned later this year.
