Gboard Introduces Undo Button for Deleted Text

Gboard is finally adding an undo button to recover accidentally deleted text, addressing a long-standing gap in mobile keyboards. Unlike physical keyboards with Cmd/Ctrl+Z, Android users lacked a reliable way to undo mistakes—until now.

First tested in July 2023, the undo button allows users to restore up to three deleted paragraphs or undo text removed via repeated backspace taps. Android expert Mishaal Rahman confirmed its potential to recover large chunks of text, making it a valuable addition for avoiding accidental deletions.

The feature is now appearing in Gboard’s quick action menu, as reported by 9to5Google. Users can undo or redo recent actions, and frequent users can pin the undo button for easy access. Deleted text is temporarily stored in Gboard’s memory, but closing the app will erase it permanently.

The undo button is rolling out in Gboard beta version 14.9.06.x. While not guaranteed for all beta users yet, a broader release is expected soon. Additionally, Google is enhancing Gboard with a new autocorrect feature to fix entire sentences in one tap.
